The Golden Leopard collective #GLC. We are a group of 6 and we act as a exhibition collaboration whist developing our individual practise with in. We all work with shape driven processes and we all want to work within a similar marketing (primarily , adult publishing / editorial/ branding.) we have a collection of knowledge and skills and with this we want to have strong focus of communication and communicating direct messages e.g. political and social issues. Our audience is 18-19 and up. Not young children as some of our work can have a dark tone.
Due to some group members being ill and lack of group organisation we didn't have time to practise and this showed whilst we where presenting. But we agreed as a group afterwards that if we had been more organised we could have improved the presenting but we did get all of our key points across , however maybe not in the clearest way. Timing as well , it felt a bit short , and again if we had practised before we could have addressed this issue and maybe found more information to fill the time. Because there were some points we missed that where good ideas for example how we could get arts council funding and having our own print facilities instead of using others , and if we decide to go ahead with this idea and it is a possibility then these are thing we will strongly consider.
I personally really enjoyed working with the lads as it was good to work with people with similar industry interests and who I have never worked with before and it was good to have new , fresh and fun ideas. We were a bit late starting the work but we got it done and reading the rational that Louis had put together made me laugh and excited to get the idea off the ground.
This could be a really good idea and would be really great if we could take this further. With a bit more structure and organisation and as a group we are well suited to our roles and can work effectively. Can't see any harm in trying to go for it ?

This talk was incredibly useful as I found a lot of the problems and question I had in my own head about when I leave and how am I going to be able to print to the same quality as I do here , Louise has been through and has some awnsers. One of her main tips was just to keep emailing people and she also explained how her process has actually gone from making everything herself but now she gets other companies to do the making and this allows her to solely focus on the design.
I also asked her quickly at the end how feasible did she find making a makeshift print studio. She replied that it was very feasible but she found it easier and more efficient to go externally and print.

Emailed Gerry Brakus - New statesman.
Gerry encouraged me to email her after she has seen some of my work and I had given her a print. Then after her visits I have decided to ask if I could interview her for PPP. I initial struggled with what to put in the email and how to phrase it but once I had researched more into what the New Statesman was about and the aim of there Magazine I found it much easier. So once I got into the flow of writing it I found that I was talking about current issues and it helped me realise the vastness of all types of journalism and editorial , for example the toddlers invading the BBC interview to the U.S travel bans that have or are being threatened to be put in place by trump. And how them ordinary man in the coffee shop needs to know and understand these issues and why it is happening. This relates to the New Statesman's main aim ' To analyse and explain the defining political, economic, geopolitical and cultural events and ideas shaping and changing the world today.' - New Statesman.
At the end of the email I sent her some more work , I put together a 3 page PDF with an image on each as there were specific pieces that I thought she would be interested in and also I want to show her my Batsford prize entry as well and this cannot be posted on instargram. Which is a shame because it is one if my more colourful images as my instargram is mainly black and white. So I just wanted to show that I can still work with colour.
Hoping for a responses soon. I am also going to try and get contacts off her of people who I can contact myself. I am aiming for around 2 interviews for this module.

The illustrated interview - New York times.
This is a really nice example of an illustrated interview. And I think doing a short animation to descibe my interview/s with the people who I choose will be an interesting and different way to go about it. It will also help me dig out the significant points within the conversation and highlight these.

salts mill- David Hockneys iPad paintings.
Went to salts Mill for a wonder and decided to go and look at the iPad art and I realised that this is a perfect example of how traditional forms of image making are being changed and adapted to meet the digital advances that are happening. Even thought when looking at these images unclose some of the line work doesn't seem to work cohesively with the rest of the image but from a distance they are in my opinion really beautiful images. The more detailed line work on the tree stumps for example and the road is good, I like the fast paces movement of the lines and how this helps to form the shape of the objects. But I would say that the colours are the strongest aspect of these images. Hockney has selected a really strong and lovely colour pallet that is a key feature to the concept behind the images. The paintings are a series of images that are observation of the seasons , so colour is a key element of this. Hockney also records that change in the scenery and there is a distinct difference between summer and winter. The winter images seem to have a much more darker and sadder tone compared to that of summer, where the colours are much brighter, bolder and there is a lighthearted , joyful feel.

The Hepworth Print fair- touching elbows
It was really good to see that it was busy at the fair which means is a really good demonstration of how there is still a keen market for print and print based products. But while I was there I chatted to someone from YUCK print house and he was telling me about a bit more in detail about risograph printing and how it is cheap and you can create multiples cheaply and effectively to the same quality as screen printing. However there where restrictions as to the weight of the paper you can put in nothing more than 75gms as it will brake the printer so the final prints are not on the best quality stock but the quality of colours and line within the image is same.
I also spoke to Kate Gibb and William Luz. They where selling works they had created as part of a collaboration. They where a set of highly experimental screen prints, and they had a really lovely visual quality to them.
I spoke to Will more about the process they went through to create the prints and he said that it was a highly experimental process and that they organised the project as, they started off with spending a few days just making. Cutting shapes out , playing around with textures and colour see what works. Then after this they would evaluate the different piece they make and nit pick the best parts of the images and piece them together to start to make the final image. Then it became a case of just continually playing around with that one piece , the colours add more elements to it. The prints had up to 12 layers of ink on the and not all you can see. And you can feel this when handling the prints that the ink was slightly elevated off the paper because it was so thick.
I also asked Will how he found the collaboration process with Kate. specifically how both there styles work together. He said that Kate was really useful when it came to the experimental part and printing and that his part was more composition and the addition of the geometric shapes. He said that the collaboration work well because they both achieved something that they would be able to create individually. So for example Will wouldn't of had the experimental , playful element the Kate has so they each brought new elements into each other practise.
I really like these prints. They have a beautiful aesthetic and the value of the process really comes out. And when you look at the set as a whole they work as a series as some of the same shapes and textures are used in several of them even though they all have different colour schemes. But once they both thought an idea was beginning to be over done they will scrap it and move onto another.
It was a really useful conversation and interesting to see a way how the print works within a collaboration.
