Laura Carlin talk

Laura Carlin work was first introduced to me on foundation, and I have always admired the sensitivy and detail in her work. So a talk from her is and was amazing ! Becuase she has a wide range of expierience in the sector of the industry I will be going into it was valuable to hear how she found starting out and progession from there. I asked her the same quesiton I asked Micheal Driver , dose having a agent or being with agency help you get more work ? She said agencys like heart are very selective about who they take on , but when it is a small group of people there is a network there. But overall she said you don't really need one. There are so many platforms now in which to promote your work that is enough. It was also really good to here that she dosn't use social media and that it is possible to get work and not have it. I personally never really got or like social media , but it is a good platfomr for feed back somtimes. So finally hearing a illustrator say you dont need it is a big releif as im finding it can have negitive ways about how you veiw your work so if you dont get enough likes on an image , that means its a bad image, when actually its not it just not within its context and your following might not have that big a following. She also mentioned in her talk that when editorials come through she like me really struggles with the reading and taking in of the articals information, so I asked her if she has any techniques in which help with this? She said get up from the desk and do somthing else but still be thinking about it. Sitting at a desk waiting for ideas to come to you dosn't really work well for her. I wanted some feedback on my wokr but she had to get off so I am thinking of emailing her some work for advice on , but also I am thinking of sending work to heart agency for feedback or even advice on who else I could contact.
